JOB DESCRIPTION:
The primary role of the Physician Assistant at Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates will be to first assist the physician with gynecologic and obstetric surgical procedures.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:
Review permit to confirm procedure and/or special needs of the patient.

Participate in education specific to surgical procedure and post operative care.

Provide comprehensive evaluation, management and care of patient pre and post operatively.

Prior to the procedure, determine specific equipment needed for the procedure. Address questions regarding preferences of equipment, instruments, sutures and other pertinent data needed to ensure optimal care and continuity during the procedure.

Determine, order, interpret and document appropriate tests, treatments and/or therapies pertaining to the patients anticipated pre, post and intraoperative needs.

Assist in transferring and positioning of the patient in the surgical suite for best exposure for the surgical procedure with consideration to patients comfort and safety.

Assist the surgeon during the surgical procedure, carrying out surgical functions as directed by the surgeon to ensure optimal surgical results for the patient, applying principles of patient safety and quality care.

Assist in immediate post operative care in the surgical suite and aid in transferring and positioning of the patient back to the gurney bed.

Participate in training of staff or students as necessary or indicated.

Participate in developing, reviewing and revising medical/surgical protocols and preference cards.

Demonstrate professional, positive and effective communication with patients and families, clinical and hospital staff, or in any instance representing Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates.

Candidate must be graduate of accredited P.A. program with additional training/experience in surgery assisting. Flexible scheduling dependent on 13 physician surgery schedule. Initial expectation is 20-30 hours per week of assisting. Possible options assisting for emergency cases and in-office patient care. Benefits available per clinic policies. Non-exempt position, salary to be determined.
