MAPA Committee Descriptions

The chapter welcomes volunteers who would be interested in serving on any of these committees, whether as a leader, a regular volunteer, or for time-limited projects.

The Bylaws Committee monitors and maintains the constitution, bylaws, and policies of the chapter. They periodically work with other committees and officers to update the Board  book of position descriptions.

The Continuing Medical Education Committee sponsors two CME seminars per year which offer outstanding CME presentations at reasonable expense, while providing a unique opportunity to network with peers and chapter leaders about professional issues.  Committee members suggest topics and speakers for conferences, help with promotion and organize social events.  At the conferences, committee members  greet and introduce speakers,  make announcements as needed and network with members.

The Corporate Relations Committee provides avenues of communication and cooperation between MAPA and employers, health industry representatives, and other corporate voices concerned with the health care of Minnesotans.  Committee members assist with on-site registration of exhibitors at the conferences, and help promote interaction between members and exhibitors.  Are you in a system that still allows reps in the practice setting?  If so, your contacts can help MAPA reach out to potential advertisers, exhibitors, or grantors.

The Human Resources/Elections Committee works to foster the development of leadership skills for interested members and coordinates the election of chapter officers each spring.

The Professional Practice Committee monitors and participates in state regulatory affairs relating to the PA profession, works with the MAPA lobbyist to identify issues to monitor, and works with AAPA on national issues.

The Reimbursement Committee coordinates chapter efforts to assure appropriate reimbursement for physician services provided by PAs, serves as a resource to members with practice-related issues, and is working on a “Frequently Asked Questions” resource for members.   Practice issues relate to every PA and each specialty has unique issues.  Could you be the voice on this committee for your specialty?

The Membership Committee designs membership benefits, coordinates the membership process, and solicits new members among PAs entering practice in Minnesota.   Committee members help draft/review letters sent with recruiting campaigns, dues renewals, and retention letters.    When it comes to promoting membership in MAPA, members provide the best testimonial for why PAs belong to their specialty organization.  You can help update the messages to non-members on why belong!

The Publications Committee publishes the chapter Web site, the imPAct newsletter, and other materials to keep members informed and offer avenues of networking and discussion. The Newsletter Editor and Webmaster are key members of the Committee.    Are you into connecting via the Internet?   Would you be willing to Facebook or Twitter for MAPA?   MAPA would appreciate your contribution.

The Public and Professional Relations Committee strives to increases recognition of the PA profession among health care professionals, decision makers, and the general public. The Committee  organizes a project for PA Week,  oversees the annual “PA of the Year” award issued by the chapter, and coordinates the PA Night Out events.     For those looking for a time-limited project, this committee can use your help.

The Scholarship Committee supports regional PA students by raising funds and coordinating many scholarship grants to MAPA student members who are in their first year of a PA program.  MAPA's Scholarship Committee can always use people to help on the committee. The time commitment is as little or as much as you want it to be, but it is never overwhelming.  We can always find a way for you to help, whether it be a small task or large, or even just sharing your ideas. Our committee is a good way to give back to MAPA, and it's always fulfilling helping future PAs continue in their studies. We do a lot of fundraising, and we distribute, collect, then go over all the applications to determine the award winners each year.

The Student Relations Committee fosters and maintains strong relationships between the chapter and regional PA programs, and seeks active representation of PA students tied to Minnesota in chapter affairs.  We organize the Challenge Bowl each year, encourage attendance at the CME conferences, and serve as a resource to students as they prepare for practice.
